25/01/2005 Actress Audrey Tautou to star in Da Vinci Code
Audrey Tautou has been signed up as the lead female character in the film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code.
Tautou, who's best know for her role in Amélie, will star opposite Tom Hanks as the female lead character, French cryptologist Sophie Neveu. She teams up with Tom Hanks character Robert Langdon to solve the murder of the curator of the Louvre art gallery in Paris.
While Ron Howard director of The Da Vinci Code, wanted a French actress to get the part, studio bosses were said to prefer a better-known actress with Kate Beckinsale tipped as one of their favourites.
The controversial novel by Dan Brown, about a global conspiracy to suppress the truth about Jesus and his marriage to Mary Magdalene, has been topping the bestseller charts all over the world.
Brian Grazer, one of the film's producers, has said that the movie will stay true to the book.
