Richard and Judy search for next Tolstoy

Richard and Judy
Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan hosts of the popular Richard and Judy bookclub are searching for a new talent.

Richard and Judy have become the toast of the publishing industry thanks to the sales boost enjoyed by titles featured on their show. Their autumn series will feature a search for viewers with an autobiographical tale that can be turned into a book by a well-known ghost writer.

Entitled True the series will give viewers without writing talent the chance to tap into Richard and Judy's selling power

Books featured on Richard and Judy's Book Club, an idea inspired by Oprah Winfrey in the US, have enjoyed huge sales boosts.

Last year's winning book, Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones, has sold more than 1m copies in the UK while Irish author Joseph O'Connor whose book Star of the Sea, was nominated by the couple as their favourite book of the year, saw a 350% uplift. The 10 books selected for this year's Book Club have already sold more than 2m copies between them.

The husband and wife team are hoping that the results of the search will provide them with not only plenty of fodder for their show but also a best-selling spin-off book for the winner.

The eight best stories will be featured on the programme, the winner will be teamed up with a writer nominated by publisher Random House and given a guaranteed £25,000 advance plus royalties.
