27/05/2005 Wilson appointed new Children's Laureate
Author Jacqueline Wilson has been appointed as the new British Children's Laureate.
The writer of books including The Story of Tracy Beaker, Bad Girls and The Illustrated Mum will hold the position, which includes a £10,000 bursary, for two years.
She follows in the footsteps of fellow Laureates Quentin Blake, Anne Fine and Michael Morpurgo
Wilson is the most borrowed author in UK libraries and over 20m of her books have been sold.
Her books often deal with gritty and difficult social subjects including death, divorce and bullying and she has been given a special Childline award in recognition of her writing on these challenging themes.
