Banville, Heaney, McGahern for charity auction
Irish writers Seamus Heaney, John Banville, John McGahern, Jennifer Johnston and Brian Friel are among eighty Irish writers, visual artists and musicians to have contributed works for a charity auction to take place in December.
The auction, which is in aid of Cathal Ó Searcaigh's charity work in Nepal will be held in An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny on Saturday 3rd December from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
Banville has contributed a piece named after his Booker Prize winning novel The Sea, McGahern has donated an extract from his memoirs, while Friel has provided the final speech for his award winning play Dancing at Lughnasa.
Other donors of unique works on paper include Brendan Kennelly, Robert Ballagh, Gwen O'Dowd, Bernard McLaverty, Alice Maher, Pauline Bewick, Rita Duffy, Carlo Gebler, Felim Egan and Sean McSweeney.
The artworks can be viewed at http://www.angailearai.com where bids can be made online. Online bidding will close on Wednesday 30 November at 4.30pm.
The artworks will also be on view in An Grianán Theatre from Monday 28 November where the auction by Whyte's of Dublin will take place on Saturday 3 December. All proceeds will go to Nepal charity work.
