30/03/2005 Sci-fi author Andre Norton dies, aged 93
Andre Norton, author of the popular science fiction/fantasy series, Witch World, has died at her home in Nashville, aged 93.
Although born Alice Mary Norton in Cleveland, Ohio, she chose Andre Norton as a pen-name because she thought her books would appeal more to boys if she had a male name.
Norton wrote, or co-wrote, more than 160 books, making her debut in 1934 with The Prince Commands.
Witch World, the first of Norton's most famous series, was published in 1963. Her last completed novel, Three Hands Of Scorpio, will appear next month.
