South African Nobel laureate Nadine Gordimer attacked

Get a Life

Nadine Gordimer, the South African novelist and short-story writer, who received Nobel Prize for Literature in 1991, was attacked at her Johannesburg home last week.

Gordimer, who is 83, was assaulted when three men broke into her home in Johannesburg on Thursday, taking cash and jewellery.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said that she did not sustain serious injuries after she refused to hand over her wedding ring to the thieves.

Gordimer's most recent work, Get A Life, was long-listed for the 2006 Booker prize.
