Brown and Baigent head to head once again
Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code, and his courtroom nemesis, Michael Baigent, are once again in competition - on the American best-seller lists.
Brown's novel went on sale in paperback last week with an advance printing of five million copies.
On the same day Harper San Francisco issued The Jesus Papers: Exposing the Greatest Cover-Up in History by Baigent, with an initial hardcover print run of a much more modest 150,000.
"Total coincidence, at least from our side," said Baigent in New York.
He told the Guardian that he had organised the book's launch date several months ago, before the trial date had been set or he knew of The Da Vinci Code's paperback launch.
Two weeks ago, testimony in the copyright lawsuit against Random House brought by Baigent and Holy Blood, Holy Grail co-author Richard Leigh finished.
A verdict is expected by mid-April. Baigent and Leigh say Brown stole "the architecture" of their non-fiction book for his novel.
