Brown back in court for Da Vinci Code case
Author Dan Brown was present in court on Tuesday to hear evidence from Richard Baigent, the New Zealand-born historian who, with his writing companion Richard Leigh, is suing over copyright infringement in The Da Vinci Code.
Baigent and Leigh claim that The Da Vinci Code lifted its central theme - that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had a child by her - from their 1982 book The Holy Blood, and the Holy Grail.
In his witness statement, Baigent said: "Mr Brown has lifted the central theme from HBHG in its entirety whilst claiming to have undertaken his own research in partnership with his wife, Blythe Brown."
He did concede that some of the 15 points of the central theme did not appear in The Da Vinci Code at all.
Baigent countered that what was in The Da Vinci Code was the result of years of other people's work.
In opening arguments last week, lawyers told the court that Brown wrote a synopsis of The Da Vinci Code before reading The Holy Blood, and the Holy Grail.
