14/06/2006 Dublin Writers Festival 2006 opens today
The Dublin Writers Festival will open this evening with a keynote lecture by cultural theorist John Carey based on his book, What Good Are the Arts?, in Project, Temple Bar.
After winning the 2006 IMPAC Award, Colm Tóibín will make an appearance
at a reading on Bloomsday, Friday 16 June, with fellow Irishman Brian Lync
h and Iranian writer Marsha Mehran.
A total of 40 Irish and international poets and novelists will participate in this year's Dublin Writers Festival, which continues until Sunday 18 June.
In a public conversation, also on Friday, Dublin writers Roddy Doyle and Anne Enright will discuss the changing character of fictional Dublin as it has appeared in Doyle's work over the last two decades.
The closing event of the Festival on Sunday, 18 June, in the Gate Theatre features celebrated author Jeanette Winterson and will be introduced by Evelyn Conlon.
