Heaney sells out at Edinburgh Book Festival
Irish poet Seamus Heaney is one of several authors whose appearances at this year's Edinburgh International Book Festival have led to a record demand for tickets.
The first event to sell out was the appearance of Glasgow's poet laureate, Liz Lochhead, but tickets for events featuring Nobel Prize winners, Heaney and Harold Pinter have also disappeared as have appearances by Scottish authors Ian Rankin and Alexander McCall Smith.
25% of all tickets for the book festival were sold in three days.
Dublin novelist Roddy Doyle will join fellow authors Antonia Fraser, Kate Atkinson and Simon Schama in launching his new book at the festival, which is held from 12 to 28 August.
