Film of Atlas Shrugged may star Jolie and Pitt
A film is to be made of Ayn Rand's bestselling novel Atlas Shrugged with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tipped for the leading roles of Dagny Taggart and John Galt.
The Russian-born Rand, already famed for her 1943 novel, The Fountainhead, published Atlas Shrugged in 1957.
Jolie is a longtime devotee of Rand's and Pitt is also a fan.
Atlas Shrugged tells the story of the economic collapse of the US in the future when American industrialists go on strike and retreat to a hideaway in the mountains.
The book promotes Rand's Objectivism philosophy, which the author described as: "the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."
It is one of the longest novels ever written, totaling over 1,000 pages.
