Colm Tóibín joins Arts Council

Colm Tóibín
John O'Donoghue, the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, has announced the appointment of IMPAC Award-winning author Colm Tóibín to the Arts Council.

The appointment is for five years, with immediate effect.

Commenting on the appointment, Minister O'Donoghue said: "I am delighted that Mr Tóibín has accepted my invitation to become a member of the Arts Council. I have no doubt a person of Mr Tóibín's international standing in the arts will make a substantial contribution to the arts sector, in his new capacity, over the coming years."

Welcoming Colm Tóibín's appointment, Olive Braiden, Chair of the Arts Council, said: "It is an honour to have such a renowned contemporary novelist as Colm Tóibín with us at the Arts Council table and we are delighted with the Minister's appointment."

She continued: "Colm Tóibín is an award-winning writer of exceptional artistic insight and skill and I know I am speaking on behalf of all the Council, when I say that we look forward to working with him in the months ahead as we implement our strategy 'Partnership for the Arts'."

Tóibín has just published his new collection of short stories, Mothers and Sons.
