Cork celebrates World Book Festival in April
Cork will celebrate World Book Festival from the 21 to 23 April with a series of free events on Grand Parade, in the City Library, Bishop Lucey Park and Triskel.
Authors and poets - including Paul Durcan, Rita Ann Higgins, Rommi Smith, Christy Kenneally, William Wall, Mary Leland, Louis de Paor and Conal Creedon - will give readings for both adults and children.
World Book Day (Dia de Sant Jordi) on 23 April is a long-established Catalan tradition, which has recently taken up in other European countries.
Cork celebrated its first World Book Festival last year, while it was European Capital of Culture, and over 18,000 people attended.
This year the Festival will include slow food stalls and book stalls on Grand Parade and Tuckey Street.
There will also be street performers, storytellers and poetry workshops in Bishop Lucey Park.
The project is a collaboration between Cork City Libraries, Triskel, Munster Literature Centre, and Tigh Fil Arts Centre.
More information is available on the Triskel website at: www.triskelart.com.
