Oliver, Rowling honoured at British Book Awards
Jamie Oliver and JK Rowling were among the authors honoured at last night's British Book Awards in London.
The 2006 Award for Outstanding Achievement went to chef Jamie Oliver, in recognition of his campaign to improve children's school dinners. <:p>
Rowling's sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, was named Book of the Year, topping the the public vote ahead of autobiographies by the late John Peel, Sharon Osbourne, Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan and Jamie Oliver's Jamie's Italy cookbook.
Sharon Osbourne's Extreme was a winner in the autobiography category while Alan Bennett was named author of the year.
Labyrinth by Kate Mosse won the Richard and Judy Best Read category and Marina Lewycka took Newcomer of the Year for A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian.
Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife was the winner of the Popular Fiction category.
