Bisto Book of the Year goes to Thompson
The Bisto Book of the year award has been won by Kate Thompson for her book The New Policeman.
Thompson was presented with the perpetual trophy and a cheque for €6,000 by the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, TD, and chairperson of the judging panel, Declan Kiberd, at a ceremony in the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre in Dublin today.
She is the first person to win the Bisto Book of the Yar Award four times and in recognition of her achievement the sponsors RHM Ireland Limited have decided to retire the Bisto Perpetual Trophy to Thompson and commission a new trophy for next year's recipient.
The Eilís Dillon Award went to Deirdre Madden for 'Snakes' Elbows'. She received a specially commissioned glass sculpture and a cheque for €3,000.
Three Bisto Honour Awards were also presented to Oliver Jeffers for 'Lost and Found', Kevin Kiely for 'A Horse Called El Dorado' and Eileen O'Hely and Nicky Phelan, author and illustrator of 'Penny the Pencil'. Each of the recipients of the honour awards received a framed certificate and a cheque for €2,000.
