Leviathan artist for IMMA show

Sophie Calle, the acclaimed French artist upon whom Paul Auster based the character of Maria in his book 'Leviathan', will have an exhibition in IMMA during 2004.

'M'as tu Vue?', is a mid-career survey of her work, comprising 125 works ranging from the 1970s to 2003 and includes new work made especially for this show.

One of the recurring themes of Calle's work is the bed, which made its first appearance in her first project Les Dormeurs (the Sleepers), 1979. In this work, over the course of a week Calle invited various friends and unknowns to sleep in her bed for eight hours each.

In Voyage en Californie (Trip to California), 2000-2003, Calle recounts the travels of her bed to an unknown person coming to terms with a failed love affair. Other themes in the exhibition relate to absence, disappearance, loss, deprivation and love.

'M'as tu Vue?' will be at IMMA from 18 June until 15 August.
